We are probably all aware to some extent, that the quality of our food is not what it used to be,
because of modern farming practice, (chemical fertilizers etc). We may not be so aware that
greenhouse gases and selective breeding have also contributed to nutrient loss. Then you add to that the losses through processing and transport, and you begin to wonder that we still have as much health as we do. Not that the situation is all that good, with a 2002 study showing that practically nobody is receiving the recommended intake of vitamins and minerals.
What We Eat In America, N HANES, 2001, 2002.
At the Illinois long term Corn Experiment (testing for over 100 years), it was found that protein in corn has decreased about .3% every decade of the 20th century. You can only wonder about the other nutrients.
Then what about this one?
"Most commercial fruit including tomatoes is picked green and ripened artificially. Produce picked early does not develop sun related anthocyanens and polyphenols, compounds that give fruit their colors and flavours and which protect humans against DNA damage, brain cell deterioration and cancer."
Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry, 6 April, 2005, 53.
Coral calcium is one way of helping restore some minerals to the food chain. But it may be worth considering other ways where a more complete range of nutrients is involved. Generally supplementation works better that way.

But do you need calcium supplements?
There are a number of factors to consider.
But first, just to continue from last time. There are a number
of reports suggesting other reasons for the health and longevity
of those people. I will just mention a couple of sites where issues
with coral calcium are raised. www.coralcalciumwatchdog.com
and www.coralclciummadesimple.com. There are plenty of others
if you just want to do a google search. Due to the amount of mud
stirred up, I prefer to concentrate on some clear matters of fact.
Perhaps the following reports are worth noting.
"A re-analysis of this British Government data found "marked reductions"of seven minerals in 20 fruits and 20 vegetables from the 1930s to the 1980s, concluding that "in every subgroup of foods investigated, there has been a substantial loss in their mineral content."
David Thomas, Mineral Resources International.
"Dozens of greenhouse experiments show that CO2 enrichment also causes significant decline in zinc, iron, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and other micro nutrients."
Sherer, op. cit. note 75.
"Turning whole wheat into white flour elimenates 50-96% of fibre, vitamin and mineral contents." Nutrition Almanac p. 145.

The Story
The Story of Coral Calcium
Studies show that many of the inhabitants of
These islands were formed upon ancient coral reefs. When it rained, water filtered through the coral deposits, picking up minerals, particularly calcium, and other elements along the way.
While there is enough of this water to benefit the inhabitants of
Coral Calcium Reef Milk comes from reef sand, a result of the natural erosion of the coral reef, which is collected in the deeper water out from the reef.
Sounds convincing till you hear more of the story.
